Broccoli Benefits
The amazing concentration and variety of nutrients and antioxidants in broccoli makes it one of the most beneficial vegetables around. Its vitamin C content is even better than that of oranges. Just one cup of broccoli provides 123mg of vitamin C, thats twice the recommended daily allowance. This is of great benefit for our immune system of which vitamin C is an essential component. Vitamin C creates antibodies that protect us from viruses like colds, flu and ear infections.

Vitamin C is also one of the best antioxidants for protecting our arteries. Vitamin C disarms free radicals (unstable oxygen molecules created in the body) that would otherwise damage LDL cholesterol that rotates in the bloodstream. If damaged, cholesterol cells will attach to the artery wall and begin forming a plaque. This narrows the artery and creates arteriosclerosis, a condition that is a major risk factor for a heart disease.

The chlorophyll in broccoli helps to build blood cells. The chemical nature of chlorophyll is almost exactly the same as a component of red blood called hemin. When consume broccoli, our digestive enzymes chemically alter the chlorophyll content into 100% hemin and therefore help to raise our red blood cell count. So broccoli juice recipes are a great choice for those with anaemia.

The potassium in broccoli is another benefit for heart health. Potassium is a mineral that is essential for regulating the proper relaxation and contraction of blood vessels and muscles, this keeps blood pressure in a healthy range. Low levels of potassium in the diet will therefore cause high blood pressure and an irregular heart beat.
